With cosmically glowing electronica and soaring vocals, the newly formed duo of HIGHTOPS aims for massive heights in their debut Megawatt EP. With chugging basslines and sparkly synth melodies, HIGHTOPS is a groovy collection of eight rooftop-ready party tracks. Producer C Todd cleverly uses hand percussion, off-kilter tribal rhythms, and ear-pleasing sprinkles of marimbas and tambourines to soundtrack a glistening sunset at a hip Hawaiian-themed luau party. Shay, the lead vocalist and songwriter, channeled her inner “Cyndi Lauper, Freddie Mercury, and Michael Jackson” for the HIGHTOPS project and said she would “have a solo dance party” before each session to “loosen up the juju”. Her pre-session routine definitely worked as the final product is a polished, breezy electro-pop record that comes fully-equipped with Shay’s confident female-forward harmonies and lyrical deliveries.
