Sr. Director, Marketing and Product Management (Burbank, CA)
Position Summary:
The Senior Director of Marketing and Product Management (“the Senior Director”) will be a key strategic leader within Position Music, driving the creative vision, planning, and execution of marketing initiatives for their frontline roster of recording artists. This role blends artistry and analytics, combining a deep understanding of music culture with strategic acumen to develop and amplify Position Music’s artists on a global scale. The ideal candidate will bring a deep passion for music, a robust industry network, and a proven track record of building artist brands, expanding audiences, and driving meaningful engagement across digital and traditional platforms. The Senior Director thrives in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment, and is equally comfortable crafting high-level marketing strategies and rolling up their sleeves to execute impactful campaigns. In this role, the Senior Director will directly product manage 1–2 key artists, overseeing every phase of their release cycles from strategy development to campaign execution. Additionally, they will lead and mentor a team of 3+ Product Managers, each supported by a Digital Product Manager, ensuring best-in-class marketing and creative output across the roster. Collaboration will be central, as the Director will be expected to work closely with A&R, Creative, Publicity, Synch, and Digital teams to create cohesive, artist-driven campaigns that cut through culture and drive discovery. The Senior Director will bring multi-genre expertise and an ear for artist development across Alternative, Rock, Singer-Songwriter, Pop, and Electronic genres. They bring both strategic vision and creative sensitivity, understanding how to tell compelling artist stories, leverage data-driven insights, and nurture long-term fan relationships. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Build, lead, and scale a high-performing marketing organization, initially overseeing 3+ Product Managers and 2–3 Digital Product Managers, while providing strategic direction, creative oversight, and data-driven insights across all campaigns.
- Serve as the lead Product Manager and primary point of contact for 1–2 priority artists, owning all aspects of release strategy, planning, and execution to deliver impactful, audience-expanding results.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with internal and external stakeholders, including A&R, Digital, Creative Content, Press, Operations, Distribution, Synch, Royalties, and others to design and execute innovative, artist-specific campaigns that elevate both creative and commercial outcomes.
- Develop, manage, and optimize campaign budgets, strategically allocating resources to maximize ROI and overall marketing performance.
- Partner closely with Creative Content teams to conceptualize and execute the visual identity and storytelling behind each artist release, ensuring cohesive and compelling brand narratives.
- Cultivate and strengthen key industry relationships with artists, managers, booking agents, and partners to drive long-term growth, collaboration, and opportunity.
- Analyze and interpret marketing performance, fan engagement, and financial data to inform strategic decision-making, refine campaigns in real time, and identify new avenues for audience and revenue growth.
Qualifications, Skills and Education Requirements:
- Proven track record in developing and executing high-impact marketing campaigns for artists.
- Strong background in Digital Marketing, Paid Media strategy and content campaigns.
- Strong digital platform relationships with YouTube, TikTok, Meta, X (Twitter), etc.
- Data-driven mindset, comfortable with analytics tools, and experience in leveraging data for campaign optimization.
- Hardworking, entrepreneurial, and innovative thinker who can multitask across multiple projects and work under pressure within a team environment.
- Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with experience building and mentoring a team.
- Exceptional communicator with strong interpersonal skills, adept at building and nurturing relationships across all levels, both inside and outside the organization.
- Embody a service-oriented work ethic with a heavy emphasis on friendly, clear, and transparent communication skills to unify internal and external partners towards campaign objectives.
- Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Hands-on executor who leads by example while also thinking strategically.
- Creative thinker with demonstrated strengths in both written and visual marketing.
- Familiarity with music analytics tools (Chartmetric, Luminate, etc.).
- Strong understanding of international music markets.
- Existing DSP relationships with Apple, Spotify, Amazon, etc.
Background Qualifications:
- 8-10+ years of senior music industry marketing experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, PR, Communications, or related field preferred.
Compensation & Benefits:
$100,000–$140,000 + discretionary bonus.
