Inspired by artists like Britney Spears and Producer Max Martin, she developed a deep passion for pop music at a very young age. When her mother signed her up for piano lessons, Teddy found herself wanting to focus on writing her own original songs instead of reciting sheet music. As a teenager, Fontana became influenced by a variety of contemporary musicians such as Amy Winehouse, Regina Spektor, Fiona Apple, Radiohead, and more.

“I’m a big believer in the idea that music inspires other music,” Fontana says. “I’ll get really inspired by the mood of a song I’m listening to and then go and create something that sounds nothing even remotely like it, but I’ll understand completely how I got there.”

Her latest single “Now”, available everywhere via Position Music, is a hybrid electronic pop bop that includes a country-western twangy guitar riff, a club-ready bassline, interstellar electronic effects, with it all being connected through Fontana’s sultry voice and intoxicating lyrical content.

The experimental approach to the instrumentation on “Now” was produced by Greg Hvnsen (Mick Fleetwood, KT Tunstall, Nikki Vianna, Giorgio Moroder) and co-written by Josh Logan (Willie Jones, Whitney Woerz, Jana Kramer), the trio quickly connected on creative level, despite having to write the songs remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Using a vast array of sonic techniques and textures, Fontana and crew found themselves in a vulnerable place, as the world endured uncertain times, and weren’t not afraid to get real about expressing emotions and using music as a means to unapologetically let out pent-up feelings.

“I think a lot of creatives are extremely sensitive and have a vast range of emotion and just need to get it out” Fontana says, “Most of my writing comes from a very real place of feelings that I’ve experienced personally. I can be a lot more fearless with what I say in a song vs. a conversation
with someone.”

“Now” is the first single from Fontanta’s forthcoming Paradise City EP due out in 2021 on Position Music. Using “Now” as a jumping off point, Fontana, Hvnsen, and Logan hope to continue to combine a wide array of musical interests by using their collective compulsive creativity so that Teddy Fontana’s songs can be played out as loud as possible.
