Enter Bagsy—a London native who has since found a home base in Los Angeles that is willing to take her immaculate and eclectic UK-centric tastes and apply it to her own fresh blend of American hip-hop, dance, and pop music. The slick electronic elements will hook you in, but it’s Bagsy’s dynamic lyrics and delivery that will keep you coming back for more. Bagsy showcases a lot of different voices on her debut EP titled What I Want . She’ll be singing at the top of her lungs on one song, and then be more quiet—almost whispering—at times on the next, and then all of a sudden she’ll be rapping in her authentic British accent to keep listeners guessing even more.

The name Bagsy refers to the british slang term for sitting in the passenger seat of a car commonly known as “shotgun” in America. A very fitting name because Bagsy’s music is perfect for rolling through the city with your entire crew in the whip while the windows are down and the sun is out.

“This music is a way for everyone to be encouraged to express themselves,” Bagsy said. “I almost think of Bagsy as some sort of a gang—a positive gang—that has different styles but is always pushing out a positive message about being united as one.”

Bagsy’s music may be considered somewhat of a guilty pleasure, it’s earworm-y and catchy, yet listen closely and you’ll realize that Bagsy is detailed and it all culminates in providing a melodic escape through the power of music and dance.

“This music is easy to get into your head, but it also expresses a lot of different emotions. It’s easy to get stressed and worried in today’s world, and this music serves as the perfect getaway,” Bagsy said. [ less ]
