While growing up in Chugiak, Alaska, Kate (Earl) began playing by ear before studying classical piano while also honing her vocal skills between the church choir and covering Janis Joplin on request in her hometown Hell’s Angel’s bar. From the beginning, she had more than an inkling that music would be her calling. In a vivid dream she had at the age of four, Earl recalls, “I sang for a sea of people farther than my eyes could see… my music shooting like electricity into their hearts.” As a girl, Earl mined her father’s record collection, tracing Billie Holiday’s vocal cadences as she sang along to songbook standards mimicking the vocal performances portrayed through the mastery of Peggy Lee and the rhythm of Astrud Gilberto. These early forays into jazz and soul would form the core of EARL’s artistic identity.
With a one way ticket to Hollywood, Earl quickly emerged in the company of Tony Berg and Jon Brion (Maggie Rogers, Fiona Apple) and was championed by Anne Lit of KCRW. With singles-of-the week for both iTunes and Starbucks, landing synch placements on dozens of prime time shows and major studio film collabed with Jesse Harris, Andrew Wyatt and Blake Mills (Norah Jones, Lady GaGa, Alabama Shakes) Earl went on to co-produce with famed engineers Gary Noble (Amy Winehouse) joined by Tchad Blake (Black Keys, White Stripes, U2) earning performances at Royal Albert Hall, Jones Beach Amphitheater, and Hershey Stadium, going viral with celebrity fans such as Britney Spears sparking hits across TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook’s Meta. Earl has shown herself a force to be reckoned with in the pop world, as her fanbase has swelled across seventy-three different countries topping Spotify charts for weeks on end. Produced by One Republic founding member Tim Myers, Earl’s upcoming EP, Rise, showcases songs like “What I Want,” and the joyfully upbeat track, “Naughty,” that radiate a sultry expressiveness that hearkens back to her influences, yet the sound also blends upbeat dance-production to create a totally infectious and delightful experience.
