Enter Ricky Cage, the newest musical project from Maryland-native Ryon Baharloo—part retro funk, part contemporary hip-hop, part alt pop, Ricky Cage connects the musical dots between the biggest pop hits being released today by using the timeless sounds and instruments of yesteryear. On “Gotta Keep Moving” Cage belts the hook “You gotta keep movin’, you gotta keep going” over a sneaky little electric guitar riff reminiscent of something you may hear on an old Weezer or OK Go album. On the bridge of the same song, the production “Can’t Nothing Hold Me Down/No Nothing is going to stop me down” over a chugging crescendo of percussion that reaches a drop that Diplo would be proud of.
