Growing up in Chicago, Illinois, Jeffery David didn’t start playing music until his early 20s. Jeffery’s dad introduced him to many inspiring artists such as, Bill Withers, Donny Hathaway, Luther V, and Stevie Wonder. These impactful influences are heard loud and clear on David’s new project called Paper Kings. “This project is a melting pot of our favorite influences. It’s hip-hop meets pop meets rock. We tried to capture the vibe in the room—which was typically a blend of whatever we were all going through in that moment,” David said. The music is an Amalgamation of all things fun when it comes to music. Upbeat tempos, soaring vocals, slick rhymes and flows, and big crescendos. It harkens back to early 10s’ crossover hip-hop/pop acts like Gym Class Heroes or Mike Posner. It doesn’t take itself too seriously yet also has lyrics and moments that truly connect and have impact.
